Mobile Photography
Robert-Paul Jansen
“You think I live in a beautiful place?
I think you do too.
Open your eyes, look at it thoroughly and see the ‘things I see’ ” - Robert-Paul Jansen
Robert-Paul Jansen is a Mobile Photographer based in the Netherlands. He first started taking pictures on his mobile when he bought an iPhone 3G. He wanted to push the boundaries of what the phone could do technically.
His aim is to make people more aware of the things around them. He has galleries in 6 countries including London, New York and Italy. I think his pictures have quite a homely and vintage, some quite simplistic, feel to them. Most of his pictures are quite colorful and are mainly focused on nature (e.g- plants, trees, animals). He uses a range of small and large depth of field and most of his pictures have a main focus point.

analysing his photographs
I love how there is only one thing going on in the photo, it's not overcrowded or overdone. There is a bit of editing, the black and white effect and the blur of the hair on the back the horses head, also the tiny blur on the edge of its ears. The background is just plain white, there's no trees or bushes. He's kept it simple. There is a lot of contrast in this picture, the horse a dark black and the background a very bright white.
This photo is very different to the last one, where as that one had some editing and looks very artistic this one is very simple. There isn't any editing in this, it's just capturing a moment. There is a big depth of field and there are 2 main focuses, the deer in the middle of the path and the path itself that goes all the way to the back of the image.

Oliver Lang
“I believe that, more than ever before,
photography is about a community and a culture,
rather than the camera.” - Oliver Lang
Oliver Lang is a Mobile Photographer from Sydney. He shoots his images using an app, called ProCamera, on his iPhone. He got started in Street Photography when he purchased his iPhone, he helped found Mobile Photo Group (click for more information on Mobile Photo Group). The style this photographer works in is very different to that of the aforementioned photographer Robert-Paul Jensen. This particular photographer works in a documentary style of photography, he takes pictures of things as they happen. Like in the pictures above he has taken pictures of people attending and participating in an event called National Pillow Fight Day and pictures of a local communities festival. He mainly uses a large depth of field to capture everything that is going on. His work is very simplistic and basic but very eye catching.
Analysing his photographs
This photograph is very different from the last. It is still using documentary photography, capturing a moment in time. However there is a smaller depth of field, the action that is going on in the background of the photograph is slightly less in focus than the foreground and the exposure is a lot darker.

Vivienne Gucwa
The camera has allowed me to
live in the moment more and
relive the moments I capture. - Vivienne Gucwa
Vivienne Gucwa is a mobile photographer from New York. She started taking pictures in mid-2000's to help cope with stress. In 2010 she decided to post the photos she had taken on her travels around her home city online. Due to the fact she had no previous training or knowledge in photography she didn't think she would get a very large audience. Her blog is now viewed by hundreds of travelers and artists. Her style of photography is very urban but vintage looking at the same time.
Analysing her photographs
MONASTRY shoot
Best
I think one of the reasons this picture is so pretty is because of how simplistic it looks, there's no effects on it and there aren't any harsh colors. I like the sharp outline of the town hall, created by the light brown color of the town hall against the blue of the sky. There is a power spot and use of rule of thirds.
WORST
I think this picture is the worst because there isn't anything to it, it looks very dull and boring. I think it could of been better if the colours were more vibrant and there was some sort of focus point.
colour shoot
best
I believe this to be the best photo from this particular shoot because of many reasons. The first is that there is a contrast in colors, the bright silver against the duller brown, creates a really pretty effect. The bright red color is really eye catching, it grabs your attention. Secondly, I like the angle the picture is taken from, it makes the photo look interesting. I think the dust that was on the glass case at the time I took the photo creates a good effect, it makes it look as if I've edited the picture to create a smaller depth of field. It also makes the glass appear frosted, it makes a cold feeling, which fits with the Christmas like theme of the picture.
Manchester at christmas shoot
best
The colour and contrast of light and dark in the photo makes it look pretty. One side is brighter because of the lights and the reflection they make in the surface of the ball. It creates a very Christmas-like feel.

Reviews Of Mobile Photography Apps
Picshop lite
PicShop Lite is a free app which enables you to edit pictures in a very simple way. You can do things like change the the filter, the brightness of the picture and the focal point. It's a very easy app to use and doesn't require you to have any kind of prior experience with photo editing software.
Here is an image I took on my phone before editing it with PicShop Lite. As you can see although my phone has blurred the background a little bit it doesn't really create a good enough effect. It didn't really have the feel I was going for.kade is the best
This is what the picture looks like after I edited it in PicShop Lite. I added a Black&White filter and a focal point. I also blurred everything besides the focal point of the image. I wanted the picture to show off the dramatic part of the book (The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer) to make it the only thing you can see in the picture. This app did exactly what I wanted it to do.
Emotion in Mobile Photography
This picture, to me, shows sorrow, loneliness and distress. The background being out of focus and the person in focus. The saturation of the background is cold helping to create the moody atmosphere. The focus point is in a black and white effect, making it stand out, and also adding to the mood and feeling of the photograph. The difference in color creates contrast.
The person being surrounded in a black and white effect whilst everything else is colored shows that the rest of the world is fine but that person isn't.

I think this shows confusion, the different history books with the one about Europe in focus. This one isn't really about the effect or how the picture looks its more about what the picture is of that I think shows confusion.
Documentary Photography
Documentary Photography is taking pictures of historical or controversial events. Or, in simpler terms, capturing the moment. This style of photography is sometimes called amateur but it can also be very artistic. The aim of documentary photography is to produce truthful, objective and sometimes candid pictures of a specific event. This style of photography can also be used in photojournalism too.

My attempt at documentary photography:
This is my favorite documentary photography photo, that I took, because it shows the reaction on the students face at the exact moment the teacher tells her something shocking.

My Mobile Photographs
This part of my website will show you some of the photographs I have taken using various different mobile devices, e.g. iPad, phone, in my own time. Some of the pictures have been taken in different parts of the UK and some are even taken in a different country. I have edited a few with a free photo editing software called PicShop Lite.
This picture was taken in the yard of my school, I really love the composition of the photo with the lens flare in the foreground. It has a similar effect to one of my previous photographs, it's calming and makes me reflect on things.
